They Say (Steve Hill)
I can take it, how long will it last
I can make, but it’s fading fast
I blind eye turned and covered the other up
Ten years of going strong, nine years of breaking up
You see it fade away, so easy for so long
I saw it coming, still I wondered what went wrong
They say to do as they say, not as they do
I say it’s not the way to get your point of view
Talk to me, I’ll wait to you get it figured out
Whispers always will be heard, louder than any shout
Common sense is really not that common anymore
Think you’re flying high, when your crawling on the floor
They say to roll over, I say it’s always fear
They say it’s almost over, I say it’s almost here
They say that is alright, I say it’s never clear
They say to hold on tight, I say I’m out of here
You see a book with pictures ,
And you read between the lines
You bought it for the cover,
This should have been a sign
Some books were made for burning,
Some pages stick from turning
I picked it up for months,
Then found it in the oven burning
You see the color black and want to paint it white
I saw the lonely days fade into lonely nights
Watching people laugh with a tear behind their eye
If you have to say you’re honest, your caught up in a lie
All I can do, is take a breath and sigh
I might just leave, before I say goodbye
They say, they do, but they don’t know me
And they don’t know you
They say, they do, but they don’t know me
And they don’t know you
They say, they do
They say to roll over, I say it’s always fear
They say it’s almost over, I say it’s almost here
They say that is alright, I say it’s never clear
They say to hold on tight, I say it’s black and white
